- Vintage Radio is an online community radio station in Birkenhead, Merseyside, that is run by older people for older people. It started broadcasting in February 2009 and has given 60 volunteers aged over 50, many of whom have no previous online, IT, or radio experience, the chance to develop the station and use computers and the internet.

- A project run by Roehampton University that introduces Saharawi women to audio-viusal technology, training them in its use so that they can record their experiences as exiles living in a remote part of the Algerian desert. It then shares their stories via the web to connect them with people all over the world.
FreqOUT! – digital new media project

- FreqOUT! explores the potential of creative, social and wireless technologies within excluded communities for their long term social benefit. Since its inception in 2005, FreqOUT! has given a voice to more than 1,100 local young people through its digital media workshop.
People’s Voice Media/Community Reporters

- Community Reporting is an exciting and innovative way to get communities talking. We teach people how to tell good news stories about their communities – in film, audio, words and pictures – and then share them through our communityreporter.co.uk website. We have over 600 badged community reporters of all ages and backgrounds and the network continues to grow as we work across the UK and Europe.
Radio Free Brighton

- Radio Free Brighton is run completely by volunteers and its goal is to increase effective communication amongst marginalised groups in Brighton. It has adapted equipment to make the production of online radio shows accessible and easy for people inexperienced in broadcasting and is working dircetly with a wide range of community groups and schools.
WORLDbytes

- An online Citizen TV channel set up by young volunteers to promote excellence in citizen reporting and provide free bespoke film training. In just two years WORLDbytes has worked with over 450 young volunteers to produce 250 broadcast quality, challenging news programmes. Uploading reports on up to 20 sites, volunteers now reach 30,000 a month with their well-shot stories.

About the Award
How does your community tell its story? How are you using the web and social media to give a voice to people who are not normally heard? This could include the use of video, podcasts, online community radio or any other medium that enables people to share the stories from and about their communities.
Who is eligible?
This Award is open to any UK-based community project, partnership or organisation, including businesses, charities, community groups, public bodies or an individual.
The winner will be able to show that they are:
- using digital media and the internet to give a voice to people in excluded communities
- telling stories in innovative, high quality and inspiring ways
- creating solutions that are sharable and/or replicable by others
Nominations are now closed and the finalists will be announced on this site on Friday 20 May 2011.
